Men in Management

The Challenge of Being a Man in Today’s Workplace

The Men in Management material is designed to help men acknowledge and come to terms with the complexities and challenges of being a man in 21 Century management. Expectations have changed and traditional male behaviours are no longer suitable in today’s workplace. Things are not as straightforward as they used to be. Keeping up with changes in working practice is not easy; some men find these changes particularly challenging.

The taster session serves both as a stand alone event and as a powerful introduction to material covered on the full Men in Management programme. This is offered as a public workshop or can be run in-house for your organisation. This session will introduce some of the issues that inform personal behaviour. By looking at gender and other diversity areas, expectations, role models, stereotypes and language, participants will begin to see how to be more effective as managers, leaders and colleagues. It will also explore strategies to improve workplace relationships.

Who is it for?

Men in leadership and management roles and those poised to move into management.

Session outcomes

  • To be introduced to the origins and reasons for existing behaviours.
  • To recognise the effect of men's behaviour on others (women and men).
  • To see how workplace relationships with women in management can be improved.
  • To share aspects of management that are particularly challenging for men.
  • To identify how organisational performance and bottom line output can be enhanced by addressing traditional male behaviours in the workplace.

Method

The session will involve plenty of discussion, sharing of relevant stories and facilitator input. You will be encouraged to identify issues in the workplace and ideas of how to respond to any challenges. The intention is that the session will be thought provoking and enjoyable.

Facilitators

Michael Lassman has over twenty-five years experience as an equality and diversity practitioner, coach and trainer. He developed the “Working with Difference” approach to equality and inclusion which is widely used in organisations as a personal, leadership and team development tool.

Chris Markiewicz has worked as a trainer, facilitator and coach for the past twenty-one years. As well as facilitating management and leadership programmes, he specialises in conflict resolution and dealing with “difficult” people. He has worked for a wealth of organisations across all sectors.
